Online Direct is the UK’s leading energy sales solutions company, providing intermediary, business and technology services to b2b energy brokers.
Formed in 1998 as a business energy sales network, we now serve over 1,000 energy brokerages – providing instant access to the widest range of suppliers and pricing on the market. Over the past 15 years we have helped to secure over 200,000 business energy contracts. We also stand alone as the only truly independent UK intermediary that doesn’t sell directly to end businesses.
Whilst our energy sales intermediary service is the bedrock of everything that we do, we have continued to innovate and add complimentary services to enable our the b2b energy broker market to maximise their revenue potential. Today we also offer OutBroker™, an outsourced contract sales and management service and a range of tools to enable brokers to add energy management consultancy to their offering.
We’ve also used our unique position in the market to develop energyengine® – a state of the art, cloud-based software platform that supports the entire energy sales contract process – from quote to renewal. Built from the ground up by us, and provided free of charge to Online Direct brokers, energyengine® is revolutionising the b2b energy broker market – making it more professional, compliant and profitable.
On a mission
Our mission is simple. We want to raise the standards of professionalism in the currently unregulated b2b energy broker market whilst at the same time making life easier for our sales brokers and partners. How? Firstly by making energyengine® the preferred sales platform for all intermediated b2b energy contracts, and secondly by continuing to develop services that help energy brokers to increase their reputation and worth amongst their customers.
Meet our team
CEO & Owner
Gary came on board in 2000 with a strong background in SME sales and relationship building, greatly aided by his forward thinking and ability to take a long-term view in business. In 2012, he created the energyengine® platform that underpins our work with SME brokers and in 2015 expanded the energyengine® into North America. Gary also plays a pivotal role in maintaining existing and creating new relationships with suppliers and energy sales brokers.
In his position as CEO, a role he rose to on the 1st February 2016, he now oversees the overall strategic direction, growth, and governance of the group.
As a father of five, what little time he gets to himself Gary spends cooking, learning the guitar, and snowboarding.
Head of Commercial
With over 17 years industry experience Alan knows what he is talking about when it comes to the energy market. He is responsible for managing the Sales team, supporting our partners with SME, Corporate and Water sales. He started with energy supplier, Eastern Electricity in 1998, which later became TXU Energy, before working for an energy consultant and then GDF Suez Energy UK, where he spent over eight years working alongside commercial and industrial clients. His career has given him extensive knowledge of the Corporate & SME market and he is able to provide brokers with a unique perspective and unbeatable access to market and products. Alan has also been instrumental in helping Online Direct lead the way in providing tailored solutions to businesses that don’t necessarily fall into conventional energy supply frameworks. His dedication and expertise has delivered significant growth to Online Direct’s Corporate portfolio.
Head of Operations
Clare brings a wealth of knowledge and contacts to her role of heading up the operations department. With her enthusiasm and energy she has developed and manages strong relations with all of Online Direct’s energy suppliers – enabling brokers to benefit from the best prices and products available on the market. Clare is also in charge of compliance and is the main link between Online Direct and Ofgem. Previously Clare spent ten years at E.ON, where she was responsible for TPI retentions and therefore appreciates what is needed by the brokers to help them remain competitive and successful in the SME market.
Head of Business Development
Martyn has been with Online Direct for nearly four years and is principally responsible for developing relations with Online Direct’s network of nearly 1,000 SME brokers. Not only does he introduce new brokers to the benefits of working with Online Direct, but he helps existing SME brokers to get the most out of the energy market and build their businesses.
