Waste Management Services

Add a new source of income alongside the typical energy and water services offered by energy/utilities brokers, and strengthen customer loyalty by offering a complete utility management package.

Offering waste management service to customers enables Brokers to position as a full-service consultancy and leader in sustainability solutions when offered alongside other extended service offerings such as Water, EV and Solar.

New business waste legislation opens up new markets

Waste management services are particularly in demand among manufacturing, retail, entertainment, food & drink, and educational settings. With new “Simpler Recycling” requirements affecting all businesses coming into effect in April 2025, there are more opportunities than ever for Brokers looking to strengthen their proposition to businesses.

High Street Shops

High-street and Destination Retailers

From small independents to big internationals, retailers produce a variety of waste types, although the nature of their waste differs due to the nature of their business.

Packaging (such as cardboard, plastic wrapping, and styrofoam), paper (such as receipts, invoices and unused advertising materials), and even broken/damaged retail fixings, furniture and POS are commonly disposed of by high street shops and big out-of-town stores alike.

Entertainment

Hospitality & Entertainment Venues

Hospitality and entertainment venues, such as hotels, theatres, cinemas, and event venues/stadiums all generate a variety of waste types due to the nature of their services.

Food and beverage waste is particularly common, as well as event-specific waste such as decorations and promotional materials - not to mention the waste create by guests and visitors using the on-site facilities.

Pub meal

Pubs, Restaurants & Takeaways

As with entertainment venues, pubs, clubs, restaurants, and takeaways also generate various types of waste due to the nature of their operations, with large quantities of food waste from meal prep and customer leftovers common.

Glass bottles, cardboard packaging and plastic wrapping is also discarded in large quantities, plus personal hygiene, cleaning products and other general waste from guests using the facilities.

Even small food outlets are likely to need to waste disposal services following the April 2025 updates to food waste legislation, presenting an easy win for Brokers offering to take control of this requirement.

Nursery

Nurseries, Schools, Colleges, Universities

Educational settings like universities, colleges, schools, and nurseries generate a variety of waste types due to the nature of their daily operations, which include teaching, learning, catering, and administrative activities.

Paper, plastic and food waste are all common, and nurseries and early-years education settings in particular have a huge amount of waste in the form of used nappies and wet wipes which need correctly disposing of, in addition to arts and craft materials, and cleaning products.

Academies and Trusts often control the contracts for multi-sites, but there are still opportunities for smaller, independent venues.

Factory

Industry & Manufacturing plants

Factories can produce a variety of waste types depending on the industry, materials, and processes involved.

Think packaging materials, scrap materials and byproducts from manufacturing processes for a start. Plus there could be food and other biologicals, and potential hazardous materials too, depending on the type of manufacturer.

Industry produces huge amounts of waste every week, presenting a big opportunity for brokers.

What to expect: Typical Waste contract/switching process

As with any energy or utilities service we offer, we require a signed Letter of Authority (LOA) to be in place before we can conduct any work on your behalf.

If your customer already has a waste management service in place, we’ll need a recent invoice in order to provide a like-for-like quote. We’ll also check to see if there are any additional costs – such as excess weight charges – to be aware of, to ensure we are quoting the best option for the customer.

Payment schedule

Fast switching & commission payment

The rest of the process is relatively quick and easy.

  • Quoting: We generate and email the quote(s) to you for you to discuss with your client. Once you let us know of their preferred option, the contract is generated and instantly sent directly to the client for signing (electronically)
  • Credit check: Once the contract is signed, the retailer will do a credit check and validate the contract
  • Onboarding: At this point, the onboarding team will conduct a Welcome call with your customer, and send a confirmation email (usually 2-3 days)
  • Purchase order raised: The PO is then sent to the supplier (which can take up to 10 working days)
  • Bin delivery & schedule confirmation: Supplier confirms receipt and provide a bin delivery date and schedule which will be passed onto the customer, and the first invoice will be raised
  • Commission paid: Once the first invoice is paid, you'll receive your commission

Waste Services FAQs

120l, 240l and 360l bins are not lockable by design. However, these can be adapted by drilling a hole and adding a chain.

It’s important to question the need for bins to be lockable not just the want.

Bin collections usually occur in the early morning, and wagon schedules are often fixed as may be subject to multiple restrictions. Collection frequency can be dependent on the size/type of collection.

We’ll work with you/your customer to find the best solution for their needs – including bespoke pricing for contracts over £5k.

Our partners strive for comprehensive coverage, however, there are some rural areas that may post challenges for some collections. Similarly, there are some urban areas that pose loading/tipping challenges.

In instances where there is a location issue, we will work with you/your customer to find the best fit solution.

For existing contracts with current suppliers, we’ll need to know the current contract end date at the time of quoting and the customer will need to submit a termination request.

If the supplier is unchanged but the contract is nearing completion, we’ll do what we can to ensure uninterrupted continuation of service.
